LOCAL NEWS

This is the first edition of this festival, which will be happening over four days in May. New West Public Library.

From Thursday May 9 to Sunday May 12, enjoy 15 free events over the course of the weekend! The New Westminster Public Library (NWPL) is working with a number of businesses and organizations to make this festival a reality, including Steel & Oak, Kinder Books, Groove Cat Books, and Arts New West. Straight Playoff Bandwagon ready to launch

The Georgia Straight Playoff Bandwagon is leaving the station and heading to either Nashville, Vegas or LA. 

As a dedicated Vancouver Canucks fan, you have the opportunity to experience the exhilaration of playoff hockey in the opposing city, thanks to Flight Center which is facilitating fan travel.

📣 Neighbourhood bulletin

🍩 Purpose Secondary fundraiser. Purpose Secondary will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts in front of the Columbia St. Sandwich Company on Wednesday, April 17. All forms of payment are accepted. The sale starts at 9:30am and ends around 2:30pm, or until donuts are sold out.

🏠️ More homes. Performing Arts Lodges New West will include 26 studio and 40 one-bedroom units. The spaces, according to the New West Record, are for those with low to moderate incomes.

👕 End of an era. Made-in-New West boutique Mila + Paige has finished cleaning out their space. The update was posted to Instagram on Sunday. Owner Anita Dunn previously shared her struggles trying to keep the business open. It closed spending a total of eight years in the community.

🗞 In other news

Affordable housing. Initially, the development at Columbia Square would have included affordable housing options. The developer has asked to make changes which would see no affordable housing included in the space. (New West Record)

Deltaport shut down. The “People’s Picket for Palestine” were at Deltaport on Monday in a bid to express their disdain for the conflict overseas. The demonstrators are asking for an arms embargo to be applied to Israel. (CityNews Vancouver)

Reena Virk. The 1997 disappearance and death of the Vancouver Island teen is back in the spotlight: Under the Bridge will premiere on April 17 on Hulu. It will also be streamed on Disney+ in Canada on May 8. (CBC Vancouver)

Hospital at Home. This program received an expansion earlier this month, with offerings from Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, and UBC. The goal is to help people with specific conditions—like sepsis and pneumonia—access in-home care. (CTV Vancouver)

Vagabond Players on Instagram

Get ready for a show full of laughs and intrigue! Play On includes a play-within-a-play, with director/theatre manager Gerry thinking it was a good idea. Unfortunately, disasters await Gerry and her crew! Billed as a hilarious love letter to community theatre, the show is brought to you by the Vagabond Players. Tickets are on sale now, with the show running from Apr. 18 to May 5 at the Bernie Legge Theatre.
